Ceyras is a typical Languedoc village ideally positioned between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Cévennes, half-way between Montpellier and Béziers on the road to Spain and in the heart of the Hérault winelands. Within a stone’s throw there are remarkable sites to visit, not least the Cistercian abbey of St. Guilhem le Désert, the spectacular rock formations of Mourèze and Navacelles, Lodève with its festival and museum, the 18th century tiny walled city of Villeneuvette, a testimony to early rural industrial architecture, and the unspoilt Salagou lake with its water sports facilities.
Our guest house nestles in the heart of the old village between the fortified church and the River Lergue below. Elegantly and charmingly restored, the house, with its stone walls and archways, still bears vestiges of the mediaeval and Renaissance chateau within whose walls it was built and offers a cool and peaceful haven. Upstairs there are three bedrooms (one a two-bed children’s room) and two bathrooms and lavatories, and downstairs a vaulted kitchen and spacious living room looking out onto the interior courtyard and, on the other side, where guests can sit out, onto the river and valley beyond.
